ubc

History. The UBC was first published in 1927 by the International Conference of Building Officials, which was based in Whittier, California. It was intended to promote public safety and provided standardized requirements for safe construction which would not vary from city to city as had previously been the case.

biggest power sources

The United States uses many different energy sources and technologies to generate electricity. The sources and technologies have changed over time, and some are used more than others.

The three major categories of energy for electricity generation are fossil fuels (coal, natural gas, and petroleum), nuclear energy, and renewable energy sources. Most electricity is generated with steam turbines using fossil fuels, nuclear, biomass, geothermal, and solar thermal energy. Other major electricity generation technologies include gas turbines, hydro turbines, wind turbines, and solar photovoltaics.

Fossil fuels are the largest sources of energy for electricity generation

Natural gas was the largest source—about 40%—of U.S. electricity generation in 2020. Natural gas is used in steam turbines and gas turbines to generate electricity.

Coal was the third-largest energy source for U.S. electricity generation in 2020—about 19%. Nearly all coal-fired power plants use steam turbines. A few coal-fired power plants convert coal to a gas for use in a gas turbine to generate electricity.

Petroleum was the source of less than 1% of U.S. electricity generation in 2020. Residual fuel oil and petroleum coke are used in steam turbines. Distillate—or diesel—fuel oil is used in diesel-engine generators. Residual fuel oil and distillates can also be burned in gas turbines.

power deison

edison power started in year was 1886

The company was first incorporated in 1909 as Southern California Edison Company after Southern California acquired the assets of Edison Electric Company; it was known as Southern California Edison until 1996 when it adopted its current name in recognition of its growing business abroad and in other industry sectors. Edison first became a holding company in 1988 when it made a small change to its original name, becoming known as SCEcorp.

Edison International became the naming rights holder for the Los Angeles Angels' stadium (which was previously known as Anaheim Stadium) in 1998 in a deal running for 20 years. The company backed out of the naming rights deal after the 2003 season, and the stadium is now called Angel Stadium.

In 2001 Edison's main holding, Southern California Edison faced bankruptcy after a state senate bill regarding financial assistance came up short (by $1 billion).[2]

On August 6, 2002, Edison International recorded core earnings per share of 56 cents in the second quarter of 2002.[3]

ac dc power

Alternating current (AC) power is the standard electricity format that comes out of outlets. The name comes from the waveform the current takes. To understand the composition of the AC wave, you need to understand that electrical currents come from a flow of electrons. As the electrons in an AC wave move, they can move in a positive direction, which corresponds to the upward part of the sinusoidal wave created by the current. When the electrons have a negative flow, the wave drops down.

These waves come from alternators at electrical power plants creating AC power. Inside an alternator, a wire loop spins inside a magnetic field. The spinning creates the waves of alternating current when the wire moves into areas of different magnetic polarity. For instance, the current changes direction when the wire spins from the north to the south pole areas of the magnetic field. The waves created in the alternator are significant for AC power’s use.

Direct current (DC) power uses electrons that move in a straight line. This linear movement, in contrast to AC’s wave motion, gives this current its name. This form of current comes from batteries, solar cells, fuel cells, alternators equipped with commutators that create direct energy, and rectifiers that convert from AC to DC power.used for cars  batters

Because DC power is so consistent in the voltage delivered, most electronics require this power type. That’s why most electronics have DC power sources in the form of batteries or need to convert AC power from the outlets to DC power through a rectifier. Power supplies often have rectifiers built in along with transformers to raise or lower the voltage to the appropriate level.

Constant voltage for some devices is preferable, such as notebook computers. For such devices, you need an AC-DC power converter if you want to run these electronics from an outlet. The converter transforms the waveform into a steady, straight line. Direct current for electronics is preferable because the highs and lows of alternating current can damage the delicate components inside electronic devices.

The Foothill Gold Line from Glendora to Montclair will add new light rail stations to the Metro Gold Line system in the cities of Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne, Pomona, Claremont and Montclair and may need to be built in phases. The first four stations (Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne and Pomona) are currently under construction; while the Construction Authority continues to seek the funding needed to complete the project segment to Claremont and Montclair.

The 12.3-mile extension will connect to many regional destinations, including two dozen colleges and universities within a short walk, bike or bus ride from one of the future stations, the Los Angeles County Fairplex, Raging Waters, several regional parks, the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, historic downtowns, many museums and much more.

For ease of use, each station is designed as a center platform station, with light rail tracks on either side (one for westbound and one for eastbound trains). Each will feature station artwork created by a city-selected artist or artist team and an associated parking facility, with charging stations for EVs, bicycle parking and bus and drop-off areas.
